In the event that Timmerman must be closed because of inclement weather or an emergency at school, announcements will be made alerting parents and students about changes in our schedule. We will be using the School Alert Program offered by WIS Television. If there is any question about a decision to close our school, delay the opening, or dismiss early, WIS-TV will keep you informed.
Please remember that many parents depend on us to be open because they have to go to work. We are not bound by public school openings and closings. We do not operate buses on rural routes.

What really makes my school stand out from the others is …
In all my life of fourteen years, I have lived in many places and attended many different schools. My dad’s job has caused my family to move around the world and I am now used to being called an “Army brat” or the “new girl”. I have always attended a public school wherever I have lived and have gotten along fine. Even though I got along fine, there were still myriad things which bothered me. My new school is unlike any other school I have ever attended. It stands out from all other schools like a giant standing in a crowd.
My school is a private school here in Columbia, South Carolina named Timmerman School. From the very start of my first day at Timmerman, to where I am sitting right now, I have been thinking that there is just something special about this school that makes it stand out from the other eight schools I have attended. In my opinion, my school stands out from the others in three ways. First, I have outstanding teachers who try to the best of their abilities to prepare me for high school. Secondly, the atmosphere of the school feels like a “small town”. Last but not least, my school stands out because of my awesome classmates who make coming to school such a pleasure.
One might be thinking, what makes Timmerman’s teachers stand out so much more than others schools’ teachers? Well, it is pretty simple. Timmerman’s teachers not only excel in teaching each student the rigors of academics, but they also strive to get to know the student as a person, not just as a test score. My teachers truly care about my education as well as important aspects of my personal life.
One also might be wondering what make the atmosphere at my school so much better than the other schools. To be honest, Timmerman School feels like a second home to me. It does not feel like a home in a big city where you barely know your neighbors; it feels more like a small town where everyone is treated like family. If I had to explain Timmerman’s atmosphere in three words, they would be safe, friendly, and nurturing. At one of my previous schools, there was an incident where students came to school drunk. Another time, several students got arrested for possession of marijuana. I feel absolutely certain that this would never happen at my current school.
More than anything, I think my peers at my school stand out like no other. I really admire how they all work together to succeed. Almost everyone has a great attitude towards education and has set high goals for a higher standard of life. My peers at Timmerman are the kind of people with whom I want to be life-long friends. Knowing full well that as an “Army brat” I will move again, my friends at Timmerman will always be a part of my life.
Overall, my school truly stands out among all others. Words cannot express the devotion I have to my school and the gratitude I have for my teachers, my environment, and my classmates. My future will be a reflection of my year spent at Timmerman and the positive impact it has had upon me. Thus, I am sure my future will be brighter due to my outstanding experiences at Timmerman School.

I fell into teaching naturally. As a child, I "held school" in my backyard playhouse. The neighborhood children would meet every Saturday morning in my backyard and listen intently as I gave instructions in spelling, sentence dictation, and math. In seventh grade, I absolutely fell in love with the mechanics of grammar and knew then that I would become an English teacher.
Following in the footsteps of my grandmother, mother, and sister, I started teaching after graduating from Columbia College. I married my childhood sweetheart, raised two sons, and received a M.Ed. in the principalship from the University of South Carolina. When I am not at Timmerman School, you will find me at our family farm riding my horses and playing with my dogs.
