The History Of Timmerman School

The Timmerman School was founded in 1954 in Columbia, SC by June H.(Mrs. John A.) Timmerman. Her genuine love, care, and concern for young people was the motivating factor in her decision to create a learning center dedicated to children.  Beginning with one classroom of pre-schoolers in 1954, the school has now grown to a student body of more than 500 in grades K-3 through eighth.  The school's faculty and staff have also increased in number to approximately fifty in order to better server the ever-increasing student body.

Mrs. Timmerman's experience with children has been wide and varied.  As a mother, teacher, counselor, administrator, and children's television program coordinator, she saw a great need for proper instruction, love, and understanding during the formative years of a child's life.  Her response to this need was to build a school based on these principles.

Mrs. Timmerman's basic philosophy - much can be accomplished through love and understanding- permeates the total organization.  The school is staffed with qualified, dedicated faculty and staff who love teaching young people.  With an emphasis on quality, the school strives to instill the desire to "walk the high road" in all its students and to produce young men and women capable of meeting and overcoming the challenges to be faced in the overwhelming world of high school and college.

Excellence in Education is the #1 Priority at Timmerman School...
Since its founding in 1954, Timmerman has provided thousands of Columbia-area and Midlands children with the city's finest educational experience.  In addition to the basic academic subjects, the school also provides exposure to and training in Spanish, computer science, the arts, and physical education.  The school consist of classes ranging from three-year-old kindergarten to the eighth grade and also provides an on-campus, after-school care program during the academic year.  During the summer months, Timmerman hosts an extended care program as well as academic and athletic camps for all students.

Receiving the highest accreditation granted by the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, The Timmerman School is recognized as one of South Carolina's top academic environments.  This fact is clearly seen in the ever-growing student population, which topped 500 students during the 2000-2001 school year.

The Junior Beta Club

The Timmerman School National Junior Beta Club is a non-profit leadership-service organization for students in grades five and six.  Our purpose is to encourage effort, reward merit, and promote those qualities of character that make good citizens.  Our school, which was chartered in 2002, has inducted 21 members to join us for this inaugural class.  We are very proud to be associated with the National Beta Club.
