Alumni were invited to a reception honoring the 50th Year of Timmerman School and 50 years of educational service by Mrs. June H. Timmerman on Friday, March 11, 2005.
All attendees were excited and very proud of their mentor when she was presented by a former June Bug, Joel Lourie, the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina's highest civilian award, for her contributions in children television (PBS June Bug Show) and friendship to the children and the State of South Carolina.
The Order of the Palmetto was established by Gov. John West in 1970 as a way that the Governor of the state could distinguish individual citizens for outstanding service or friends to the state. It is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an individual, and is given solely at the discretion of the Governor.
